Crossed Roller Bearings

Crossed roller bearings are specially designed precision rolling bearings whose central feature is the cross arrangement of the rollers. The rolling elements of crossed roller bearings are made of cylindrical rollers, which are arranged in the raceways of V-shaped grooves at an angle of 90° to each other, enabling them to withstand multi-directional forces such as radial, axial, and tilting moments at the same time, which gives them an obvious advantage in high-precision and high-rigidity application scenarios. Compared with traditional bearings, its integrated design eliminates the need for multiple types of bearings to be used in combination, making it particularly suitable for industrial scenarios where space is limited but precision is critical.

LNB Bearings offers a full range of high-quality, competitively priced crossed roller bearings and can be able to provide custom options to meet specific customer demands.

1. What is cross roller bearing?

Crossed roller bearings are precision bearings with two rows of rollers having a vertical structure in a 90-degree crossing. Due to their special structural configuration, they are able to support radial, axial, and tilting moments, and other composite loads simultaneously. Crossed roller bearings are generally composed of an inner ring, an outer ring, a cage, and cross-arrangement of rollers, and the rollers are kept at a certain distance from each other by means of an isolation block or a cage so that the load is evenly distributed. Because of the cross-arrangement of rollers, rigidity and load-carrying capacity of the bearing are significantly increased but the process of manufacturing the crossed roller bearing is complex and requires the use of high-strength bearing steel and precise machining in order to provide rollers' and raceways' contact precision and surface quality.

2. Types Of Thrust Bearings

(1) RB Crossed Roller Bearings

RB type belongs to standard type crossed roller bearings, the outer ring is divided into two parts, in order to prevent it from being separated during handling or mounting, it is fixed with screws for easy use. RB crossed roller bearings have the advantages of high precision, high rigidity, compact structure, high speed, and so on.

(2) RE Crossed Roller Bearings

The RE crossed roller bearing is similar to the RB type, but it is a split inner ring and one-piece outer ring, designed for applications requiring high rotational accuracy of the outer ring. The RE series is available in two construction types, RE (open type) and RE...UU (double-seal). RE crossed roller bearings have the advantages of compact structure, high load-carrying capacity, high precision, high rigidity, long lifespan, etc.

(3) RA Crossed Roller Bearings

The RA crossed roller bearing is a lightweight version of the RB type, which is characterized by its ultra-thin and compact design, with split inner and outer rings. RA crossed roller bearings achieve the transmission of rotational and load-bearing forces through the rolling of the rolling elements (roller) between the inner and outer rings. RA crossed roller bearings have the advantages of high load-bearing capacity, high rigidity, high rotational speeds, compact structure, lightweight, high-precision positioning, etc.

(4) RU Crossed Roller Bearings

RU crossed roller bearings have an integral structure with both inner and outer rings. RU crossed roller bearings have been machined with mounting holes, so no additional fixing flanges and support seats are required. RU crossed roller bearings are available in RU (open), RU...UU (double-seal) and other types of structure. RU crossed roller bearings have the advantages of high precision, high stiffness, high speed, compact structure, long usage lifespan, and so on.

(5) CRBH Crossed Roller Bearings

CRBH crossed roller bearings have an integral structure with both inner and outer rings undivided, suitable for outer and inner ring rotation. It has both open and double-sided sealing structures. CRBH crossed roller bearings have the advantages of high load-carrying capacity, high rigidity, high precision, compact structure, long life, and so on.

(6) CRBT Crossed Roller Bearings

CRBT crossed roller bearings are of ultra-thin design, which reduces the thickness of the inner and outer rings of CRBS type to the limit while maintaining high rigidity and precision. This type of crossed roller bearings is suitable for lightweight and very compact structural design. CRBT crossed roller bearings are characterised by lightweight, compact structure, high precision, high rigidity, and so on.

(7) CRBC Crossed Roller Bearings

CRBC crossed roller bearings are similar to that of RB type in structure, the outer ring is separable and fixed by screws.CRBC crossed roller bearings have the advantages of high rigidity, high load-carrying capacity, and high precision.

3. Crossed Roller Bearings Characteristics

(1)Large load-carrying capacity:The crossed roller bearings' crossed cylindrical rollers are positioned crosswise on the rolling surface of the V-shaped groove at an angle of 90° through the isolation block, thus they are able to support multi-directional loads such as radial loads, axial loads, and tilting moment loads, reducing the concentrated load on an individual bearing and increasing the overall load-carrying capacity.

(2)Compact design, space-efficient:In contrast to the solution using multiple bearings combinations, crossed roller bearings through the integration of designs, avoid additional bearing combination necessity, thus enabling the entire device structure to become more compacted, more suitable for conditions when space is scarce.

(3)High rigidity and high precision:The crossed roller bearings' design significantly improves the rigidity of the bearings and reduces deformation under operating conditions, thus ensuring high-precision rotation and positioning, which is especially well-suited for applications requiring high rotational accuracy and stability.

(4)Various mounting methods:According to various models, crossed roller bearings can be of split or integral structure, and some models have mounting holes, which can make the mounting process simpler and improve the assembly accuracy.

4.Crossed Roller Bearings Application

Crossed roller bearings are widely used in numerous fields due to their small size, high rigidity, high load capacity, high rotation accuracy, etc. The following are the main applications:

(1)Industrial robots: Crossed roller bearings are used in basic motion parts such as robot rotary joints, wrists, waists, etc.

(2)Precision machine tools and CNC machine tools: Crossed roller bearings are utilized in the spindles of machine tools, indexing heads of precision machine tools, rotary tables, rotary tables, and other key components.

(3)Medical equipment: Crossed roller bearings are used in CT scanners, magnetic resonance (MRI) equipment, robot joints of surgery, endoscopic rotating mechanisms, and so on.

(4)Measuring and optical instruments: Crossed roller bearings are used in high-precision telescopes, astronomical telescopes azimuth axis, laser measuring devices, optical measuring equipment, CMM rotary table, radar antenna, etc.

(5)Semiconductor equipment: Crossed roller bearings are used in photolithography machine, wafer transfer robot arm, precision rotary table and other important components.
